What is Fairmined?
Fairmined is an assurance label certifying gold from responsible artisanal and small-scale mining organizations that meet strict standards for ethical practices. Established by the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) in 2004, Fairmined aims to transform mining into a force for good, ensuring environmental protection, fair labor conditions, and social development within mining communities.
Key Aspects of Fairmined Certification:
• Ethical Mining Practices: Certified mines operate legally, uphold human rights, and provide safe working conditions.
• Environmental Responsibility: Miners minimize environmental impact by reducing the use of toxic chemicals like mercury and rehabilitating mining sites.
• Fair Compensation: Miners receive fair prices for their gold, along with a premium invested back into community development projects.
By sourcing Fairmined gold, jewelers and consumers support responsible mining operations, contributing to the well-being of mining communities and promoting sustainable practices in the industry.
Who is Responsible Jewellery Council?
The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) is a non-profit organization that sets global standards for responsible business practices in the jewelry and watch industry. Founded in 2005, the RJC’s mission is to promote ethical, human rights, social, and environmental practices throughout the entire jewelry supply chain—from mine to retail.
Companies that become RJC members undergo a third-party audit and, if successful, receive RJC certification, proving they meet the RJC Code of Practices.
• Code of Practices (COP): This includes standards on labor rights, environmental impact, mining practices, sourcing, and anti-corruption.
Do you offer lab-grown stones?
At IZABEL, we’re deeply inspired by the magic and timeless beauty of natural, earth-mined diamonds—each one a unique gift from the planet, shaped over millions of years. For this reason, our core collections celebrate these natural treasures and do not feature lab-grown stones. However, we understand the appeal of choice. For customers seeking bespoke designs, we’re happy to offer lab-grown stones as an option, ensuring your custom piece reflects your vision.
What role does recycled gold play in your sustainability efforts?
Some of our partners prioritize recycled gold to reduce environmental impact, while others source newly mined gold from certified, ethical mines that align with the standards of organizations like RJC and Fairmined.
Approximately 75% of our products are currently sourced from our certified sustainable partners. We are committed to achieving 100% alignment with certified ethical sourcing and are working toward achieving this goal by 2026.
